Commission Report
Seven design studios and individual designers participated in the competition for the corporate identity of the Jože Plečnik Fund.
Five were invited:
Studio AA
Ajdin Bašić
Studio Ljudje
Studio Monoform
Studio Nejc Prah
Through an open pre-selection process, the commission selected two additional participants based on their past references:
Vladan Srdić, Studio 360
Ljubica Čehovin and Martin Košir
The evaluation committee met four times: twice before the submission of proposals and twice after. It met with all participants in person and answered their questions. The committee proposed a joint meeting for any additional clarifications during the process prior to the submission of proposals, but the participants did not feel the need for this.
Seven entrie were submitted to the competition, all in accordance with the rules. Upon receipt, they were assigned codes to ensure anonymity during evaluation. The evaluation committee thoroughly reviewed them and eliminated five proposals in the first round. At the second meeting, following a reasoned discussion, the committee unanimously selected proposal number 04. The committee fully accepted the design of the logo and the imagery for annual events, but expressed reservations regarding the use of the visual identity on ceremonial printed materials. The members of the committee decided that this shortcoming should be addressed before the public presentation.
Following approval, the committee identified the contestants. The proposal by the design studio Ljudje was selected.
Argumentation for Selection
The commission recognized the proposal for a comprehensive visual identity, prepared by the design studio Ljudje, as the most appropriate among all the submitted solutions. It best adhered to the competition guidelines and met the selection criteria. It is distinguished by a strong presence and communicative clarity, with its key strengths being the sophisticated use of basic elements and a contemporary interpretation of the system of images for the annual awards. It expresses modernity through a thoughtful balance between monumentality and minimalism. He treats the overall image as a comprehensive system in which the Fund’s image and the annual awards are logically and meaningfully connected. The proposal is cost-effective for further implementation and has the potential to strengthen the recognition and reputation of the Fund and the Plečnik Awards.
